Whiteout II  2012

TOWN SQUARE (FESTPLASSEN), BERGEN

Site-specific,  interactive video installation.
Materials: Freight container, wooden frame, recovered plastic, latex, ashes; Two HD projectors displaying a one-frame white square, looped.

 

This artwork was produced for the National Academy of the Arts (KHIB), Department of Fine Arts BA-graduate exhibition KHIB Bachelorutstillingen 2012. at the Bergen Town Square (Festplassen). It is connected to two other pieces, In-titled (2011-2012) at the KHIB Department of Fine Arts and Agnosia (2012) at the Bergen Old Prison (Bergen Gamle Kretsfengsel).  

“Any one who has common sense will remember that the bewilderments of the eyes are of two kinds, and arise from two causes, either from coming out of the light or from going into the light"
 

- Plato. The Republic.

 

 

- The fire were necessary to look at the paintings and maybe towards staging people around. When you look with the flame, with moving light, you can imagine people dancing with the shadows. Like Fred Astaire.

- Fred Astaire, yes.

- I think that this image dancing with this shadow is a very strong and old image of human representation, because the first representation was the walls, the white wall and the black shadow.

The presence of humans in the cave was fleeting like shadows.
